What is the difference between individual, bulk, and site/lab licenses?

Individual Licenses An individual license is for one person—forever. You can buy it for yourself or as a gift (for example, a parent for a child or an instructor for a student). Once activated, it’s permanently assigned to that person and cannot be transferred, shared, sold, or given to anyone else, even if the original holder stops using it. Bulk Purchase of Individual Licenses You can purchase individual licenses for multiple people at a volume / bulk discount. Each person receives their own non-shareable license. This option is ideal for flight and mechanic schools, companies, airlines, universities, instructors, FBOs, retailers, or groups/classes purchasing together. Lab/Site Licenses Lab/Site licenses are designed for classrooms or labs with fixed computers (or things like FBO lobby PCs). How can I buy Dauntless products in bulk? Please visit our Bulk Purchase Page, if you are not there already. Our bulk-purchase process is designed to be straightforward and largely automated. You can see our pricing up front, select the products and quantities you need, and proceed directly through checkout without first having to request a sales quotation by phone or email. Need a quote for your accounting or purchasing department? Begin the normal checkout process and select Quote as the payment method where available. This will generate a non-binding quotation that you can pass along internally. If you represent an established company, school, government organization, or similar institution and are ready to purchase by purchase order, select Invoice at checkout to submit your purchase-order request. What do I get after purchase? Your confirmation email will include, usually under License or Keycode, a secure link to your fulfillment portal. Your fulfillment portal lets you: View the activation keycodes you purchased. See how many codes have been used and how many remain available. Send a keycode directly to a student or customer by entering their email address and, optionally, their name. Automatically send the recipient a welcome message containing their keycode together with download and activation instructions. View qualifying orders placed using the same purchasing email address in one place. Organize or assign keycodes by campus, instructor, department, or other grouping. Purchase additional codes when you need them. The fulfillment portal is intended to make bulk licensing easy to manage. You can purchase a pool of licenses and distribute them as your students or customers need them, rather than having to process a separate retail purchase for every individual user. Quantity Discounts Our bulk-purchase system is highly automated, allowing us to offer competitive quantity pricing without requiring individual price negotiations for ordinary orders. On the Bulk Purchase Page, look for the pricing matrix buttons to see how quantity discounts apply. Discounts are normally calculated per line item, rather than according to the total number of unrelated products in the shopping cart. The checkout screen will always show you the final price before you place the order. For most payment methods, fulfillment takes place as soon as payment has been successfully processed. For example, a credit- or debit-card order can generally be fulfilled immediately. For purchase-order requests, fulfillment normally occurs after we manually review and accept the request. We generally try to do this within 24 hours. In many cases, approved organizations receive their licenses before payment is received, although we reserve the right to require payment before fulfillment where appropriate. Bulk orders are non-refundable. Please purchase quantities that you reasonably expect to use. Larger organizations, typically those with several hundred students or more per year using our products, may qualify for customized no-minimum-quantity preferred pricing. This is arranged on a case-by-case basis and can allow an organization to purchase codes dynamically as they are needed. How to buy iOS (iPhone/iPad), Mac, and Android apps in bulk Good news! Apple and Google provide organizational tools that can make it straightforward for schools, businesses, and other organizations to purchase and distribute our apps to iOS, Mac, and Android users. Where the stores support it, we also designate our apps for the maximum educational discount available through their programs. With the exception of Safelog subscriptions, which are discussed separately below, iOS, Mac, and Android apps are purchased through Apple or Google rather than directly from Dauntless. If your organization wants to purchase apps for multiple users: Businesses, schools, and other organizations can generally purchase and distribute our iOS, Mac, and Android apps using Apple's or Google's organizational purchasing systems. This is different from our Microsoft Windows PC software, which can be purchased directly from us through our Bulk Purchase Page. Your organization will need an appropriate organizational account with Apple and/or Google. Many schools and companies already have this set up, so it is worth checking with your IT department, purchasing department, or administrator first. If your organization is not yet set up, the following are useful starting points: iPhone, iPad, and Mac: search for "Apple IT Zero Touch Deployment" and Apple's current organizational deployment and purchasing options. Android: search for "Managed Google Play". Once your organization is configured, you can locate our apps through the appropriate Apple or Google system and distribute them to your students, pilots, employees, or customers. Apple and Google handle these transactions directly. Dauntless does not control the organizational purchasing process, eligibility requirements, pricing rules, account setup, or distribution mechanisms within their systems. Organizations that have these systems properly configured generally tell us that distribution is straightforward once the initial setup is complete. What about Safelog? Safelog works somewhat differently. We can sell Safelog subscriptions directly in bulk. Your pilots or other users can then use those subscriptions with the free Safelog apps available for iOS, Mac, Android, and other supported platforms. Apple and Google have made organizational deployment considerably more accessible over time, so it is worth investigating their current options carefully, even if you represent a relatively small organization. If you have confirmed that an organizational account is not practical for you, there are still several possibilities: Individual purchases: Students or other users can purchase our apps themselves through their own Apple App Store or Google Play accounts. You can direct them to our website, where they can find links to the appropriate official app-store versions. Customized school or company portal: If you regularly send students or customers to our products, we may be able to create a customized portal for your organization that can integrate naturally with your own website and branding. We have done this for numerous schools and companies, and there is normally very little work required on your side. We do not charge for setting this up. Please contact us if you are interested. Apple gifting: For a moderate number of users, Apple's app-gifting options may also be useful. You can read Apple's information about gifting apps here. If that page changes, search for "gifting an Apple App Store app." Google Play gifting: Google does not always provide the same straightforward gifting process as Apple. Searching for "Google Play gift an app" may provide current options and third-party guidance. In short: For Windows PC software, purchase bulk licenses directly from Dauntless. For most iOS, Mac, and Android apps, use Apple's or Google's organizational purchasing systems. For Safelog subscriptions, we can sell bulk subscriptions directly to your organization. If your organization needs another arrangement, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss the practical options. Dauntless does not mediate returns between bulk purchasers and their students or customers. Your fulfillment portal lets you check whether a keycode has already been registered to an individual. If a keycode has already been registered, you should not accept it as a return for reassignment. Once registered, the license is permanently associated with that individual and cannot simply be transferred to another person. If a keycode has not yet been registered, you may, at your discretion, accept it back, refund your customer if appropriate, and later issue that unused code to somebody else. Naturally, the original recipient should understand that they must no longer use the returned code. Individual licenses are intended for one person and may not be deliberately shared between users. Where intentional license abuse occurs, we reserve the right to cancel affected licenses or take other appropriate action. Honest mistakes are different, of course, and we are always happy to clarify licensing questions. Technical and customer support Dauntless provides technical support through our online helpdesk, which includes FAQs, self-help tools, automated guidance, and access to our support and subject-matter staff. If a student or customer to whom you supplied a keycode needs help installing or activating the software, please direct them to our Unlock Help Wizard and online helpdesk. Open the Unlock Help Wizard The main exception is an issue involving your own sale to the customer. For example, a customer might purchase a Windows license from you and then discover that they do not own a Windows PC. In such cases, use your fulfillment portal to determine whether the keycode has been registered. If it remains unused, you may handle any refund, exchange, or replacement according to your own policies. We strongly encourage both bulk purchasers and end users to try before they buy whenever a demo is available. Most of our Windows products can be downloaded and tried before purchase, allowing users to confirm compatibility and make sure the product suits their needs. The demo versions contain enough material to give users a meaningful feel for the software, and the same installation can generally be converted into the full version simply by entering a valid keycode.

B2B Purchase Questions: methods, purchase orders, tax, etc.

What payment methods do you accept? We use FastSpring, a large and well-regarded merchant-of-record, to process orders. They accept credit/debit cards, wire transfers, purchase orders, and more on our behalf. The checkout page shows the options available for your location and order size; EU and North American customers usually see the most choices. Orders are delivered instantly for credit and debit card purchases. For other payment methods other than purchase order, orders are delivered once payment is received and processed. For purchase orders, see the next question. Paying by Purchase Order? Yes. we generally gladly accept purchase orders from stable companies and educational institutions, at our discretion. We do not accept purchase orders from individuals. To pay by purchase order, select "Invoice" at checkout. All purchase orders are manually reviewed by our team - usually this takes no more than one business day and you can contact us via our helpdesk to expedite this if needed. Once you have submitted your PO/invoice request and we have accepted it, the contract will have been made and your company/organization will now have a firm obligation to pay for the codes received. Unless otherwise discussed, you will receive your purchased activation codes / digital items immediately once your purchase order has been accepted, even before payment has been submitted. We use FastSpring, a trusted eCommerce merchant-of-record, to process orders for us, so your order will technically be from FastSpring, not from Dauntless. TLDR-click here. Orders are processed for us by a well known third-party merchant services company, FastSpring. They act as our payment processor and merchant partner (the "merchant of record"). They do great work in taking payment in various forms, fulfilling digital orders promptly, and keeping transactions safe and secure for all of us. We (the pilots and programmers of Dauntless) don't actually see customer credit card numbers or other financial data connected to order and technically your purchase is from them, not from Dauntless. This works out well, since it allows us to concentrate our efforts on doing what we do best - making great apps and aviation products. Our merchant partner processes payments for thousands of online merchants, including some larger ones such as Symantec. Because of their size and scope, Our merchant partner has a number of US States and a few European countries. They collect tax/vat only in those locations where their physical presence or other laws require it. Nobody obviously has any motivation to charge you sales tax other than to comply with law, and they structure their businesses to the extent possible to minimize this burden for themselves and our mutual customers. However, FastSpring must comply with tax rules where required by law. This is why you may see sales tax applied to your order. You might not be liable for sales tax if you are able to pay with certain payment methods or from certain locations. For example, you might legally avoid paying tax/vat if you purchase using methods from a state or country where FastSpring is not currently obligated to collect sales tax. Due to pressures from various tax authorities, it may not always be sufficient to simply have even a legitimate billing address outside of the domain in which you are being taxed. Some countries and regions compel our merchant partners are compelled to collect VAT or Tax even based on things such as IP address. Again, this is totally outside of our hands - please contact the merchant partners involved directly in this. It brings us no joy that you are taxed and of course we wish you weren't as it only increases your net costs. Where it is safe and legal to do so (the specifics likely vary country to country) you might be able to avoid this issue in some cases by using a 'remote access' system or VPN of some sort of make it appear that you are in a country other than you are currently in. We do not encourage the use of such systems where it is not lawful to do so, but in places where it is this may be an option for you. If you are exempt from paying sales tax, there is an option oh the checkout page to provide your VAT / other qualifying information. If this is not sufficient, please CONTACT THE FASTSPRING TAX/VAT TEAM who can provide you with the necessary guidance. How quickly will you receive your products? Fast! Card payments are usually fulfilled ("you'll get your activation keycodes") immediately. Most purchase orders are, at our discretion, "fulfilled upon acceptance", which means that you'll get your keycodes as soon as we approve your PO request, which is usually within one business day and normally BEFORE you pay. That said, we "fulfill upon acceptance" PO orders for existing customers in good standing and for known/established larger clients. However, in some cases, orders for smaller and/or new clients may be "fulfilled upon payment", which means that your keycodes will be delivered electronically once payment is received. A keycode does not become obsolete simply because another calendar year begins. When you provide a keycode to a student, you are giving that person a personal license to the GroundSchool product for the platform purchased. Once activated, that user can continue receiving content updates for that product without an additional content-update fee. That means you do not need to maintain separate inventories of "2026" and "2027" licenses, replace unused codes when a year changes, or worry that a keycode sitting in your fulfillment portal is becoming stale. The keycode is the license. The learning content is kept current through our update system. A student may install the software, activate the license, and then be only moments away from receiving the latest material prepared by our editorial team. We also like the fact that former students can continue to use GroundSchool later in their careers as a review or refresher tool, while still having access to updated learning content for their licensed product. What are those "+ Audio" checkboxes? Our Windows PC GroundSchool products contain the complete core study system needed to prepare for the applicable FAA knowledge tests. Audio Mode is an optional add-on to that base software. Audio Mode lets students listen to many of the questions and answers being read by a human narrator. Some students find this extremely useful because it gives them another way to review the material, including during times when sitting in front of a screen is inconvenient. If you select the + Audio option when purchasing a GroundSchool title, the keycode generated for that user will activate both the standard GroundSchool software and the optional Audio Mode. If you do not purchase Audio Mode, the normal GroundSchool product remains fully usable. The audio feature will simply remain locked, and the individual user may have the option to purchase it separately later if desired. A few things to know about Audio Mode: It is an optional supplement to the main GroundSchool study system. It contains narrated questions and answers, with occasional additional commentary. Questions that depend heavily on charts, figures, calculations, or other visual material may not be included. What's the difference between buying bundles vs. individual test banks? The easiest way to explain this is with an example. Suppose you want to purchase both Private Pilot and Instrument Rating preparation. If you purchase a Private + Instrument bundle, you receive one keycode that activates both test groups. If you purchase Private and Instrument separately, you receive one keycode for each test group. So, for example: 50 Private + Instrument bundles = 50 keycodes 50 Private licenses plus 50 Instrument licenses = 100 keycodes Bundles are generally best when you already know that the same student will need all of the included test groups. They are usually simpler to administer and may also offer better pricing. For example, we particularly recommend Mechanic / AMT bundles to schools whose students are expected to take all three of the General, Airframe, and Powerplant tests. One code can be considerably easier to distribute and manage than three separate codes. The tradeoff is flexibility. Once a bundled keycode has been activated by a student, the entire bundle belongs to that user. If the student later decides not to continue to the second or third test, the unused portion of the bundle cannot be separated out and reassigned to somebody else. Buying individual test banks gives you greater flexibility. You can issue each code only when a student actually needs that particular test. The disadvantages are that individual licenses may cost somewhat more overall and you will have more keycodes to manage. Our fulfillment portal, provided to bulk purchasers, makes managing individual codes much easier, but administering several separate codes will naturally involve a little more work than issuing one bundle code. Tracking and monitoring of student progress is built in and free for you and your instructors! Our GroundSchool FAA test preps feature great tools to help students and instructors connect. Longer duration licenses cost less per year than shorter ones. Let's say you buy 10 5-year licenses via bulk purchase. Once the purchase process is finalized, you will receive, via email, a personalized link to your bulk purchase order fulfillment page. Once you visit there, you will find 10 keycodes / voucher codes corresponding to your order. At this point, you can now give out the codes to others as you see fit. We provide tools there to help you with this. If you buy, for example, 10 voucher codes, you don't need to distribute them at all at once. Un-redeemed codes will sit patiently in your personalized fulfillment portal until, for example, a new pilot joins your organization or an existing pilot's subscription is ending and needs extending. It's a really fair, convenient, and user-friendly system system. To redeem a code, the Safelog user (pilot) in question should start Safelog on ANY platform - PC, Mac, iOS, Android, or via www.SafelogWeb.com. If they don't have a Safelog account yet, they should create a free demo account first. Then, when they start the app on any platform, they should click on REDEEM A VOUCHER CODE. This is available under "account" or "my account" on all Safelog platforms. Once a code is redeemed, it will extend a Safelog subscription by the amount of time in question. For demo accounts or for expired accounts, a voucher code will begin on the day that the voucher code is redeemed. If the person redeeming a code has an active Safelog subscription already, it will extend their subscription by the given time past the existing expiration date. For example, if a user has an account that expires on December 22. 2026 and he activates a 1-year voucher code on June 1, 2026, their subscription will be extended to December 22, 2027. Once voucher codes have been activated and the corresponding time has been allocated to a given Safelog account, this allocation is permanent and irreversible. And that's it!
