MOM/1000
MOM/1000
A moment divided by a constant such as 100, 1,000, or 10,000. The purpose of using a moment index is to simplify weight and balance computations of airplanes where heavy items and long arms result in large, unmanageable numbers.

In weight and balance computations, the value for moment equals the mass of a given item multiplied by its arm. This number can often be quite large, and thus unmanageable. To simplify things, moments are often written as MOM/1000 or MOM/100.

MOM/1000 means that the "actual" moment value is divided by 1000. So, for example, if you are given a "MOM/1000" value of 1445.3, you can multiply this by 1000 to get an "actual" moment of 1445300. Conversely, you can turn an "actual" moment value into a MOM/1000 value by dividing it by 1000.

Sometimes, when using MOM/1000 values, values are approximations. For example, an actual moment value of 841405 might be represented with a MOM/1000 value of 841.4 or 841 for simplicity.
