FAQ > SimPlates
How often are the plates updated?

SimPlates is a product for flight simulator entertainment use only. It is NOT for use for real world flight or flight planning. As such, we make no guarantees about any future updates whatsoever. That said, while we make no guarantees, in practice we have really over-delivered and have provided regular updates for the past 10 years along the following lines:

  • USA plates in the app are generally actually up to date or very close to it. That is to say, they are updated consistently with the FAA/NACO 56-day charting cycle. From time to time (once every few years), the FAA changes their internal formats such that it "breaks" our retrieval system for a bit - we usually figure this out and fix it before too long.
  • Europe (Eurocontrol) plates in the app are now generally updated at least once per year, and often more than than this.
  • Other countries are updated from time to time as seems reasonable and as a variety of circumstances permit.

The above is a guideline report of what has been the case recently (as of this writing) and what, generally speaking, we expect to continue into the near future. However, SimPlates is provided only with the "guarantee" of having an available set of plates essentially the same as what is listed under "Plate List" on the SimPlates home page at any given point.

If you require always-current plates, these can be purchased from real-world aviation data providers for approximately $2000 for 6 months. With SimPlates costing just a tiny fraction of this while actually exceeding some of the "worldwide" coverage providers in many areas, you can perhaps better appreciate the tremendous value that SimPlates provides the serious simulation enthusiast.
